As former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee catapults to the top of the 2008 Republican presidential race, amazed media on-lookers ponder his meteoric rise. The authentic, charismatic former minister, they say, is swaying disheartened conservative voters, especially the legions of evangelicals in Iowa and other states, disillusioned with President Bush and unimpressed with his potential successors. But despite emerging stories from his checkered past such as the Wayne Dumond affair or his past AIDS bigotry, a true portrait of Mike Huckabee as a radical reactionary and dangerous extremist has yet to be painted.

Here then, are the Top 10 Moments in Mike Huckabee's Extremism:

My favorite is this one I think:

8. Huckabee Proclaims His Theology Degree a Unique Qualification to Fight Terrorism
Minister Huckabee is quick to champion his degree from tiny Ouachita Baptist University as uniquely qualifying him for the White House. His faith-based presidency would fight the dual threats from Charles Darwin and Osama Bin Laden. In November, Huckabee tried to claim the mantle of the GOP's leading terror fighter, arguing:

"I think I'm stronger than most people because I truly understand the nature of the war that we are in with Islamo fascism. These are people that want to kill us. It's a theocratic war. And I don't know if anybody fully understands that. I'm the only guy on that stage with a theology degree."

Apparently, Mike Huckabee knows a theocrat when he sees one.

The best part of this is that he doesn't even have a theology degree.

This guy almost scares me as much as Bush. Perhaps it's because they've both shown the same faith-based beliefs and general ignorance of the world around them.

Catch22

There are some similarities, but at least Huckabee appears to have some genuine compassion while Bush has repeatedly demonstrated that his campaign promise to be a compassionate conservative was a fraud from the beginning. GW Bush's policies have primarily favored the wealthy and corporate interests.

While at this point Huckabee might be slightly better than Bush, the country needs a dramatic shift from Bush.

Huckabee just hasn't had time to show that his compassion is a fraud.

He talks about his humble beginnings and being outspent yet he never talks about his personal wealth, the fact that he makes mid six figures on the speaking circuit. He started a PAC to offset his income in Arkansas. Sure he donates some of his speaking monies but that is just good business when you get so much.

His speaking engagements generally are backed by corporate interests whose purposes are contrary to what he says he believes.

He says what he needs to to get what he wants and will say the opposite in the next sentence if it will get him more.

6. Huckabee Speaks to God
Addressing a 2004 gathering of Republican governors, Huckabee playfully took a cell phone call from God, promising Him GOP support of His platform while assuming His backing for the Republican Party and President George W. Bush:

"We're behind [Bush], yes, sir, we sure are. Yes, sir, we know you don't take sides in the election. But, if you did, we kind of think you'd hang in there with us, Lord, we really do."

What is the obsession with trying to elect the most under qualified and delusional Evangelical nut-job in the race? NASCAR, CMT, and WWE have ruined this nation.

I wonder if the God the delusional Huckabee was talking to owns a hacked iPhone. Shame on him if he does :)

This article is baloney. It takes Mike Huckabee's personal faith and turns it into ten issues that he is slammed for. Is a man not allowed to have personal faith in this county anymore? This article takes things that are obviously jokes and turns them into faults and flaws of this man. Give him a break; a man shouldn't be harrassed for his personal beliefs.

This is the social Internet, and it's 'run' by Atheists. As far as the Internet is concerned if you have any beliefs that involve a God then you can just @!$%# off. Gotta love 'new media', haven't you?

I wouldn't characterize myself as an atheist (or an agnostic). I don't run anything. I seeded a link. I don't believe Huckabee has any more right to claim he is acting on God's behalf than I believe Bush or Bin Laden are.

*To be clear, I don't know if he claims to be acting on God's behalf like Bush, but he has claimed to speak to God and that God speaks to him.

The problem is that religious beliefs have no place in government and he runs for public office on a religious platform that very near to 100% driven by religious dogma. That is why he is a frightening candidate for president, especially because he allows his religious beliefs cause him to act out in a bigoted manner. The leader of a nation cannot and should not be bigoted against a significant portion of his own populace. These intrusions of religiosity must stop or we are doomed to a dire fate at the hands of extremist beliefs.

I take no issue with people having their own beliefs, but people like Huckabee wish to affect their religious ideologies on the way in which we govern our nation. As I already stated, this practice has no place in our government which is purely secular in nature. The argument that this is a Christian nation is a logical fallacy.

And replace it with a sales tax. That is a bad thing.

Ron Paul wants to abolish the IRS, cut spending and replace it with nothing. That is a very good thing.

If you totally ignore the actual consequences it would on the surface appear good. Of course the fact it that the federal government does a lot of good things as much as some political zealots pretend otherwise.
    According to Ron Paul:

True tax reform is as simple as cutting or eliminating taxes.

Wrong again Ron Paul. Its really not that simple. If it were then the George W. Bush approach would work fine. In reality such simplistic thinking that reducing taxes is always good has led to huge deficits and mortgaging the future.
Its really not that simple and no informed people should be so naive.

I think you missed the whole cut spending part. If you do not do that first, then it would be impossible.

It is very possible to cut taxes without cutting spending. In fact its easy. It also easy to talk about spending cuts and lot harder to enact them.

The fact is that cutting taxes is not the only way to engage in tax reform. Its patently obvious yet people like Ron Paul use demagoguery to pretend otherwise.
